Yellow Kangol

8 X 10 - Oil Painting

8 X 10 - Oil Painting

This is an older one, my second painting in Oils. I think i posted this one earlier from the iPhone so wanted to get a better photo up on the site. This painting reminds me of high school. Everyone was wearing kangols back then, weird thing was that was the second time it got famous after the 80′s.

I surrender

11 X 14 - Oil painting

11 X 14 - Oil painting

Finally got around to finishing this painting these weekend. It was sitting in my sons room starring at me waiting for me to complete it. I have been notoriously bad about not finishing some started projects but im getting back on track.

Surrender in Progress

Surrender In Progress

New painting I started last night. Work has been really ruff the last couple weeks, so I decided to create an ode to how I feel. This guy is standing in a crazy jump suit waving the white flag. I used a really deep red in the background to represent the drama that made him surrender. I am trying to paint this one a little slower than the others. Really want to get detailed with this one. It’s about 11 X 14 in size so I gotta get my detail brushes out.

Waving Goodbye ( in progress )

Waving Goodbye
The other day i decided to finally give in and give oil paint a try, and i must say I am pretty impressed. Up to now i have never really experimented past water colors, and acrylics. For me it always seemed to work, i like painting fast anyways so i never really saw the need for oils. After this painting i realized that it was a lot more than just keeping the paint wet. The colors pop off the canvas much more than with acrylics, just creates a more vibrant picture. Really enjoyed blending the colors together so easily. I normally struggle a lot with shading in acrylics because of the timing. Oil is a real nice change of pace that I am sure ill be using more of.

Another Montana Alien experiment

RedFace'd

This guy reminds me of the kind of characters i was doing during my high school years. I remember really learning how to cut with the can back then, for those that don’t know cutting is technique where you trim lines and fades with the color next to it. This helps achieve a serious level of detail in your work…if you can do it right. I remember looking at other writers pieces wondering how they got lines so damn thin. Now I am trying to remind myself after all these years. Hopefully a few more of these and i wont look so rusty.

Plastic PVC Limbs

PVC Limbs
Another character using the montana alien cans. This time i experimented with the semi transparent cans. These cans have half clear coat and half paint. This allows for better control when doing really faint shading. Overall i liked the use of the white more than the black, but it was my first time with it.

Long Purple Face

Long Purple Face

New character i painted with the Montana Alien Cans i got in the mail. These cans are probably the best i have used for shading. The low pressure can allows you to press the tip lightly for smaller lines.
